Installing Convertible Car Seats
Before you Begin »
- Select a seating position. The safest place is where the child seat fits securely. The back seat is the safest place for all children to sit.
- Know what kind of seat belt system is in your vehicle and how to lock it to secure the child safety seat. Knowing how to lock the seat belt is what will hold your child safety seat in place.
Installation of a Convertible Car Seat in Rear Facing Position » A 6 Step Process

1) Check to ensure that the harness straps are in the lower slots. (They should be at or below baby's shoulders.)
|

2) Adjust seat to the most reclined position.
|

3) Identify the rear-facing belt path on the seat.
|

4) Place the vehicle belt through the belt path and buckle.
|

5) Push the child seat towards the back of the vehicle seat, then press your body weight down into the child safety seat, and pull the excess belt webbing of a lap only belt or the shoulder belt portion of a lap/shoulder belt away from the buckle, taking out as much slack as possible.
Activate the locking mechanism. |

6) Check for secure fit by placing your hands on the child safety seat, near the belt path, and pull.
Child safety seat should not move more than an inch forward or sideways.
Child safety seat should be secured at a 45 degree angle.
If seat is not at a 45 degree angle, unbuckle seat and place a rolled towel or foam noodle underneath the base of the child seat at the vehicle seat bight to achieve the proper 45 degree angle.

Activate the locking mechanism.

4) Check for secure fit by placing your hands on the child safety seat at the base, near the belt path, and pull.

5) Attach tether strap to tether anchor in vehicle and pull to tighten. Most forward facing child safety seats manufactured after September 1999 have a tether strap. Most new cars have ready-to-use tether anchors. Older vehicles may be retrofitted with a tether anchor. (For more information on tethers click here.)
